Lost Or Missing Radioactive Materials:
What Is Your Laboratory's Plan?

It is the responsibility of each nuclear medicine laboratory to have a policy in place to be followed in the event of lost or missing radioactive materials. Since the events of September 11, 2001, the close monitoring of these materials has become increasingly important in the nuclear medicine industry. While the Nuclear Regulatory Commission requires nuclear medicine laboratories to have such a policy, some facilities are deficient in this area. Below are samples, ranging from a basic, written policy to a detailed flow chart.
