THE WHAT

22% of accredited labs are granted accreditation for multiple sites and 2.8% of the applicants have accredited a mobile component.

The ICANL currently offers accreditation in three general areas of testing, each with subspecialty testing: Nuclear Cardiology, which includes Radionuclide Myocardial Perfusion Imaging (RMPI) and/or Equilibrium Radionuclide Angiography (ERNA); General Nuclear Medicine, which includes any or all of the organ systems including Hematopoietic/Lymphatic, Radionuclide Therapy; and PET (molecular imaging) in Oncology, Neurology and/or Cardiology. Accreditation can be applied for and achieved in individual areas or all areas of diagnostic imaging through a comprehensive application for accreditation.

  • RMPI - 95.2%
  • ERNA - 31.2%
  • GNM - 6.9%
  • PET - 2.9%

THE WHERE

ICANL accredited labs are located throughout the United States and Canada. A state-by-state listing of the total number of currently accredited laboratories is illustrated in a chart.

Nuclear medicine laboratories are found in a variety of settings and departments (figure 5):

  • Private Offices - 77%
  • Hospitals - 13%
  • Freestanding clinics - 3%
  • Mobile Services - 3%
  • Other - 4%
