Required Conference Call Introduced as New Decision Option
MARCH 2010 | Effective March 1, 2010, the ICAVL has established an alternative to the required site visit decision.
Aware of the economic challenges that vascular laboratories are facing, while balancing the ICAVL mission of promoting high quality noninvasive vascular diagnostic testing, the ICAVL Board of Directors recently focused on offering an alternate decision to Site Visit to laboratories that submit applications with significant deficiencies. To aide laboratories in achieving compliance without incurring the additional costs associated with site visits, the Board has developed a new decision option: Required Conference Call.
Laboratories with significant application deficiencies will be required to participate in a mandatory conference call with the ICAVL Technical Manager. The goal of this call is to discuss the deficiencies identified in the application submission. The Technical Manager will outline the corrections and subsequent documentation that will be required to ultimately achieve accreditation.
The laboratory will be notified, in writing, of the Required Conference Call decision and the areas of concern within their application that will be discussed during the conference call. The letter will provide three date and time choices available for the call. Participation in the conference call by both the medical and technical directors will be mandatory before the laboratory may proceed with resolution of the identified issues.
Laboratories that receive a Delay accreditation decision will also have the option to request a conference call to discuss their notification letter that outlines the deficiencies identified in their application submission and the corrections and documentation required to achieve accreditation.
The ICAVL Board of Directors renders one of the following accreditation decisions upon review of the evaluations of each applicant laboratory:
- Accreditation Granted
- Accreditation Delayed
- Required Conference Call
- Site Visit
Mandatory site visits are now reserved only for those laboratories where information which may change the status of the application cannot be obtained via any of the other decision options.
